Tindex Owl
This was my first go at Branding. I was to create an animal mark in a branding form. I ended up choosing the owl. Because of it's natural round shape which would create a closed gestalt, meaning the viewer's eye wouldn't be lead off the mark, but would still be contained. First I did a bunch of drawings, these are the two I ended up choosing to work with.
I then created an illustrated version of each mark, one obviously has more friendly set of eyes than the other.
This is what I took to be presented, Bob my teacher liked what I had, but it needed to be pushed farther. He said that it slightly resembles a moth or butterfly. So needless to say, it wasn't done. But when is design ever done or finished? I was at a point that I couldn't abandon it just yet, it still needed work. So then I placed the owl shape I had into a circle, reversed the shapes, and created this mark.
So now the visual effect of the owl is done by the background of the page, while the colored shapes provide the outlines and allows the viewers eye to finish the owl. This provides a neat effect when accomplished.
This mark I created is for a night Security System called Tindex.

On/Off Switch
This is where a lot of headaches came. I wanted to add a simple feature to where a simple text is displayed just below each image. A supplemental item to enhance the web site. As seen here below.
The on/off button sits on a parent level while the content bar along with my images and scrolling thumbnails are each nested in their own clip. So there's one for each portfolio category. One for branding, one for layout, etc.
Getting access to each "child" clip with the appropriate variable passed along to make each element turn on or off with each click of a button as someone may scroll through the images was quite a challenge.

Boo at the Zoo
The description given to me was describing only a few details, therefore giving me some room or freedom to do what I wanted to do.
The description details:
*Zoo event party
*Slightly spooky
*Family centered
After input, I've Lightened the orange, changed what got emphasis in the phrase, re-arranged the brand and got rid of the "cross" that was doing more harm than good. Then attached the balloon to the phrase. I made the pumpkin half of the balloon less scary but still resembled itself to still keep a Halloween feel to it. I edited the panda to make it slightly more realistic instead of matching the smile from the pumpkin side.

Navigation
The next step was to get my navigation to slide into position at the correct time, with an added feature of making the contents open up a sub menu when Portfolio was clicked on. (see below) I also added a slight but commonly expected event to each button for when you click or mouse over each button, to let user knows that everything is in working order.
With the sub menu opening the way I wanted it to. I needed to close it also at the right time. Assigning multiple variables to keep track of every event to determine how and when each element should function took time and exact precision through trial and error. Longer than I expected that's for sure. :)

Building my Website
This was the very first thing I worked on as far as function goes. I wanted to create a horizontal scroll bar that would contain all of the thumbnail versions of my work.
One of the things I ended up doing for each button was actually scrolling through the timeline of the clip by 15 frames each click. If you know anything about flash timelines, then you would know that scrolling through the timeline forward and backward is no easy concept.
I had to teach myself through trial end error and using google to figure it out. This was only step one to my so called "Easy and simple website" that I designed.
